Artist Bio

Sharon Matthews is an accomplished artist with over 45 years of experience, 18 of these in the fine art world painting commissions and shows.

The invisible manifesting itself in the visible, is a truth which has always captured Sharon’s imagination. She approaches the enigmatic quality of each subject and then communicates that quality with a developed fine art language, to great acclaim. Striving for a sense of truthfulness and beauty in all her work, communicating with line, shape and colour continues to be a daily challenge and goal, evolving with the varying subject matter and variety of mediums.

“I have been painting my life journey with it’s ever changing seasons. This has brought about a variety of subject matters, created with a variety of mediums, to best explain each. The consistency in my explorations of subject matter is in the lines, shapes and colours. They all stand together as an honest reflection of my experience of the world as it changes around me.”

An award winning graduate of Sheridan College, including Governor General’s silver medal for “Best of the Year”, her career began with 6 years at McGraw-Hill Ryerson as a designer and art director, followed by 15 years as the VP and art Director for Matthews Communications Design which she co-founded. During these years she received invitations to teach and lead workshops at Sheridan College, Banff Centre Publishing, Max the Mutt Animation, Woman’s Art Association of Hamilton at the AGH, and SOYRA, (Society of York Region Artists).

“People I meet always want to know how long my paintings take.

My answer is, a lifetime.”
